Jul 26, 2023Springfield man charged with possession of meth after traffic collision
William Page
A Springfield man was indicted on charges relating to a June 27 car collision and possession of methamphetamine.
According to the arrest citation, William Page, 32, was reported by a female caller as having been involved in a hit-and-run with her on Interstate 65 south near the 94-mile marker.
The caller was, according to an arrest citation, able to give the license plate and vehicle description to dispatch after Page’s vehicle had originally pulled over but then reentered traffic without him exiting.
After responding to the call, an officer, according to the citation, located the car, a Mazda Tribute, in the lane to enter I-65 North from the Western Kentucky Parkway but the car then merged back onto the end of the Western Kentucky west bound, improperly crossing the gore area and causing motorists to brake.
According to the citation, Page was shaking uncontrollably, had bloodshot eyes, couldn’t remember his social security number, and had difficulty concentrating and removing his seatbelt.
Page also, according to the citation, “had no form of insurance and dispatch advised that he had a suspended occupational license.”
After observing suspected drug paraphernalia in Page’s floorboard, the officer, according to the citation, located a baggie full of suspected crystal meth between the driver’s seat and the center console, and Page confirmed that he had smoked meth between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m.
Page was indicted on first-degree possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine, leaving the scene of an accident — failure to render aid or assistance, failure of non-owner operator to maintain required insurance, operating a motor vehicle with an operator’s license revoked, suspended, cancelled or denied, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants.
First-degree possession of a controlled substance is a Class D felony punishable by one to five years in prison while leaving the scene of an accident is a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to 12 months in jail and up to $500 in fines. Failure to maintain required insurance, operating with a license revoked, and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants are all Class B misdemeanors punishable by up to 90 days in jail and up to $250 in fines per count.
Page was released from the Hardin County Detention Center on July 17 on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
